We had a port-side full suite on deck 14. Not sure if it was a fluke, but most days we seemed to have the afternoon sun on our balcony, a nice way to end each day. As expected for a brand new ship, our stateroom and the whole ship was in perfect condition. The staff were attentive, friendly and very helpful.
Embarkation was slick and smooth, no issues. We arrived at the pier from our hotel by water taxi, a bit of a zoo with all the boats, but the system works.
Stateroom was as described, very roomy, lots of storage and shelving in the room and bathroom. Given the large shower, the tub is probably a waste of space. Towels, robes and toiletries were well done. The beds and bedding were comfortable and the A/C and TV’s worked without a hitch as did the WiFi. Loved being able to check the day’s events, my account status as well as connect to the internet, all from our room. The weather forecasts on TV were very accurate and the Princess produced “In Depth Port Reviews" were an excellent intro to each port, more so than the on board lecture. The balcony is very narrow, hardly enough room for the deck chairs.
The Concierge lounge was a nice touch for an early coffee (best coffee on the ship) or a quick snack of cheese, fruit or pastries later in the day.
Food in the Crown Grill and Sabatini’s was excellent, fresh and a lot of choice. I think Sabatini’s menu has changed from three years ago, but still a good choice. We ate in each of the two “fee” rooms twice and enjoyed the food and the quality of the wait staff each time. We ate our other dinners in the Symphony Dining Room, and again the food and service were first rate. The menu gets somewhat predictable with only a few items changing each night, but there was always at least one new item to try. With a suite, you get to enjoy breakfast at Sabatini’s, a real treat – unhurried and well done each morning. A spoiler once you have had the pleasure. We sampled the pizza at Alfredo’s, had an excellent Calzone. The Horizon Court/Bistro is immense; we never had any difficulty getting a table. The Horizon Terrace/Outrigger Bar combination works great for lunch in the sun. On mornings with an early start, we used room service – prompt and painless.
We bought a sliver wine card but oddly, the card only works in the dining rooms and bars, not with room service.
Entertainment was fine with the Beatles wannabes, major production events, the string quartets in the Piazza being the best of the bunch.
The jogging/walking track on deck 18 is well designed, easy to access and not crowded. The fitness center is fully equipped and was again not crowded.
We went on two Princess excursions for Toulon and Cinque Terra (never quite hit the mark), two private small group tours for Athens and Ephesus (excellent in both cases and the rest DIY. A good mix and we got to see what we came for. Disembarking in Barcelona again was painless. We had a bit of a wait in a very long cab line-up but I gather there were 15,000 passengers embarking/disembarking that day.
All in all an enjoyable 12 days.
Quiet, mid-aft location, lots of room and storage (three closets plus bedside tables and a desk. The TV's and A/C worked great, comfortable beds and linen. Close to concierge lounge. On this trip seemed to get a lot of sun on the balcony later in the day.
