We booked with MSC Cruises and particularly the fantasia as it had an excellent itinerary and had no days at sea. We booked directly with MSC and had the allegrissimo drinks package. We booked a mid ship balcony cabin on the 10th floor. I had to stop reading the reviews on Cruise Critic as they we're making me want to cancel the cruise altogether. After spending a week on the ship I honestly couldn't understand what people moan for considering this was nearly £1500 less than the equivalent Royal Caribbean cruise including the drinks package!
We flew into Venice Marco Polo airport with British Airways and on arrival at the airport we had no transfers organised. Its extremely easy to get into Venice from the airport, hop on the ATVO coach to Piazzale Roma, across the street to the people mover which drops you right into the port. All for the princely sum of 11 euros return, so much cheaper than a water taxi!
Embarkation was efficient but slow. We queued outside to have our luggage taken off us, we we're then sent to the check in area upstairs to receive our cruise cards. You are then given an embarkation card and have to wait for your number to be called before getting on the ship. They do sell drinks packages at check in, cheaper than buying it from the UK but you are whacked with a 15% service charge on every drink so it does work out cheaper buying it in the UK overall.
