This was our first time to visit Europe so I did a LOT of research months before we went. I used Rick Steves book, Tripadvisor, read lots of reviews, and forums on Cruise Critic. All the planning did pay off because we had a wonderful trip.
My husband and I flew Allitalia from JFK to Rome. Bobs Limos driver was waiting for us on arrival and drove us to Hotel Artemide on Via Nazionale, which was a wonderful hotel. We stayed three nights in Rome and used Walks Of Italy for three tours there. I recommend them. Very good, but be prepared to do a lot of walking and wear comfortable shoes.
Bobs again picked us up for the drive to Civitevechia. Embarkation was so easy because most people board in Barcelona. I was glad we spent time in Rome and boarded there.
Balcony cabin was great. Lots of storage.
