We have never sailed on a large ship before. (Last cruises were Majesty & Grandeur.) It was our first time not booking a suite. We had a superior oceanview room with balcony. Great room, great service. Not a bad thing to say. The ship is huge and beautiful and lively. In our 5 days on the ship, there were still places we didn't get to.

As for planning, I recommend the Royal Replenish drink package because the specialty coffees and bottled water really make it a a savings. We don't drink much, but did bring a bottle of wine. That was good, until I tried the mojitos. Yum! But one a day was enough.

Dining: the MDR was magnificent and we were treated like royalty from the get-go! We really love the dining at night -- it's like a date for us. We were always offered 2nds or 3rds on each course! Windjammer was really good, too. (I don't get how people complain about the food.) Pizza was great & poolside food was great, too! We don't go clubbing, but we love to watch people get all dressed up to go. Lots of entertainment in just people watching on a ship this size. We did go to a few shows, and the shows were great (ice show and theater) and the ship has plenty to do to keep you busy. On sea day, pool areas are really crowded -- but that is expected.
