We took a cruise on the Getaway from 9/13 to 9/20 and we were shocked and pleased with different things on the ship. There is one BIG thing that caught most of the guest off guard….THERE IS NO LOBSTER NIGHT on this ship as it is with other ships. Seems Norwegian management decided to delete this item on this ship (and possibly others in their fleet) and replace it with a “Seafood Night”. This was cheaper to make and there was a lot of disappointment from the passengers. The food on the ship was above average; however, the same cannot be said for the desserts. NCL needs to readdress this area by getting a new Dessert Chef! The only thing that made it reasonably acceptable was the hand dipped ice cream. The service in the food area was great and they would go out of their way to keep tables cleaned or assist you with your needs.

Embarkation and Disembarkation was a breeze. Our room was comfortable and well laid out. All areas were utilized and had lots of storage. The room was showing “wear” as the carpet was dirty and had spots where someone put out cigarettes in the carpet even though we had a “No Smoking” room. Also, there was mold growing on the metal ceiling on Deck 15, near the ping pong tables. I was surprised to see this condition as the ship is less than a year old. The quarters staff was not personable (at least in our area) and when approached were put off by simple requests or questions. There is only one small swimming pool for adults. It is too small and something needs to be done to correct it, as soon as possible. NCL needs to delete “The Marketplace”, keep the outside bars, and expand the adult pool. Ideally, there should be two adult pools. NCL went out of their way on the children’s pool and did an excellent job with children’s pool area.

There were several places to eat meals that were included in the cruise price. Most of the dining areas (O’Sheehan’s, Taste, and Savor) offered the same thing and rotated it to a different menu the next night. However, the third night, it went back to the menu from the first night. We tried Cagney’s and loved it. It is worth the $30 charge per person for this dining experience. This is a “must go to” and be sure to book early or before the trip. We had breakfast in the Garden Café and enjoyed the menu variety for all meals there, if you want to go. Most of the time there was a better/different selection of food at this location. Flamingo’s offered a Latin menu only. Read more
