This was my first cruise (ever) to Alaska in early September with my parents and sister. I'm in my late 20s and most of the passengers on the ship were over 65. As we quickly realized, the food and activities were definitely catered towards an older crowd. I'll take old people over screaming kids any day though and most of the kids were sequestered in Club HAL (Holland's day care center) or the pool so we avoided them the majority of the time.

Embarkation was fairly fast and smooth. We were already being plied with cookies and refreshments at the check-in area. Much more pleasant than the airport. Had an unmemorable lunch in the Lido, but the view of Seattle and the Puget Sound was lovely. We really lucked out on weather this trip as it had been raining in Alaska before we arrived and was sunny most of our cruise.

Our luggage was in our room after the Muster drill but in the future I would just carry it myself as it would have been easy to roll all the way to your room from the dock. We did this when we disembarked and even my 80-something year old dad had no problems.

Large Ocean-View Stateroom

Cabin D

Our family of four squeezed into a "large" oceanview stateroom. Two of us slept on the bed, which was pretty comfy. The sofa also converted into a bed, which my dad had no complaints about. There's a bunk bed that comes out from the ceiling. I slept in it a few times and found it to be too hard and the "arm" that is supposed to keep you from rolling off onto the floor was a thin piece of wobbly metal. I didn't feel very comfortable sleeping in it and in retrospect we'd get separate rooms. The bathroom was pretty small too with little counter space. If you're looking for something more luxurious and can afford to upgrade do it. It was nice to have a window but it looked like it had never been cleaned since the ship was built. There were black stains all over it. The location of the room was great in terms of feeling the least amount of motion.
