This cruise was a last-minute substitution. We had planned a trip to Hawaii, but a certain hurricane disrupted those plans. Since we were packed on Thursday with nowhere to go, we got on the wait list for a cabin on the Allure, which was leaving on Sunday. Someone cancelled and we got a cabin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, flew to Fort Lauderdale on Sunday morning, and got on the ship.
This was our second cruise on Royal Caribbean, the first being on Freedom of the Seas. We have been on Celebrity once, and on Princess ten times.
We had not purchased Royal Caribbean’s transfers to the ship, but their “greeter” at baggage claim stopped us and told us we could still take their transportation and the amount would just be added to our room account. It was nice not to have to deal with our luggage at the port and worth the extra cost over that of a cab. Embarkation was painless. But as has been the case on all of our non-Princess cruises, the cabin was not ready when we boarded.
We loved this cabin because of all the activity we could see from the balcony; we could also see the ocean behind the ship. But if you're looking for quiet, you should look elsewhere; things get quite noisy on the Boardwalk at times. The cabin door does do a pretty good job, though, of muffling the sounds. The bed was very comfortable. The total lack of amenities other than soap in the bathroom was a bit puzzling. The shower, though small, was nice. The sink was absolutely midget in size. The facial tissues and toilet paper were so thin and cheap you had to use at least twice as many as you would have had the quality been sufficient; this seemed liked a "penny wise, pound foolish" decision.
