My husband and I included the island-hopping Pride of America as part of our 17-day first-time vacation to Hawaii. We started with 3 days on Oahu, 7 days cruising, and then 7 days in a cottage on the Big Island. We enjoyed the Pride of America immensely.

STATEROOMS: After reading many reviews, we splurged on a suite stateroom because we tend to spend time in our room when not on excursions or enjoying ship activities. If you can afford to do it, it's worth getting a suite. Our room was large, had lots of storage, and we even had a dressing room. We used the huge private balcony to often eat outside at the full-size table. We had a chance to glance into other staterooms while they were being cleaned as we walked down the hallway and could see that they were really cramped. In fact, one of the staff on board even remarked that the Pride of America has the smallest staterooms of any ship in the fleet. That said, the ship was beautiful and well run.

FOOD: There are many dining options and we tried several. The only specialty restaurant we tried was Cagney's for dinner and we were very disappointed. I had a tiny filet and small baked potato which tasted fine but was definitely not worth the additional $30 that it cost. My husband had a rib eye that he said had good flavor was was fatty and the meat was hard to chew. He said it was the worst he had ever had. Again...not worth the extra $30 for his specialty meal. Because we had a suite, we were entitled to go to Cagney's for breakfast and lunch at no cost. We did that a few times and it was really nice to be seated and served from a menu rather than jostling in the main cafeteria. The food came from the same kitchen as the cafeteria, but there were a few additional items on the menu. We ate most of our dinners in the Liberty dining room and it was great. You choose from a menu and the service was excellent.

Cabin Review

Penthouse with Large Balcony

Highly recommend the suite. We have always had a stateroom with balcony and concierge service in past cruises, but upgraded to a suite for this trip. So worth it - the space, the special breakfast and lunch options at Cagney's for no additional cost, and the service of a butler and concierge. We'll probably always try to get a suite in the future if we can afford it, especially for a long cruise (7+ days). The suite was exactly as pictured on the website and the dressing room w/desk and lots of storage was a nice surprise. The balcony had 2 lounges and a full-size found table with chairs, so enjoyed sitting outside and eating breakfast some days and having drinks in the evening.
