We booked a one week eastern mediterranean cruise on Celebrity Silhoutte from Venice to Kotor, Santorini, Athens and Katakolon.
Did exactly the same cruise on another ship years agon so we knew what to expect in the ports.
As the price difference between the Aqua Class Cabin and a Sky Suite was marginal we decided to try the Sky suite this time, only suites available were the ones looking to the aft od deck 10. There were also ones available on Deck 11 but the Cafe is right above and I read people complained about the noise. As we also already experienced huge noise problems in a cabin below pool deck on another ship, we always avoid that.
Sky Suie 1667 was absolutekly perfect, the extra space was great, double the size of closet and drawers, huge bathroom with bathtub, nice sitting area and huge balcony.
The butler was perfect, took extra care, nice snacks every afternoon and coffee whenever we wanted it. Only disadvantage compared to Aqua Class Cabin (which is cheaper), water is not included in the suite.
There was only one main issue, which we experienced after the first night, there was soot all over the balcony and covered floor, chairs, handrail and table. Whenever we wanted to use the balcony, we had to clean with towels. The steward did his best to keep in clean, but after some hours soot was all over again. Staff told us, that this problem is known for all Solstice Class ships.
So overall, we would never book a Sky Suite at the aft again, book only one at the side of the ship!!!
Public rooms of the ship are spotless and elegant, we love the restaurant and all bars. Had food in the MDR nearly every night and it was always good. One night we had dinner at Lawn Grill and loved it, you must have this at least once during your cruise, perfect open air setting.
Staff overall the ship was really helpful and nice.
Embarkation and Disembarkation in Venice was smooth, to get offthe boat we opted to carry our own luggage which saves tremendous time.
Tendering process in Kotor/Montenegro and Santorini was also smooth.
Our favourite port is Santorine, its a must, perfect views and so relaxing just to hang out in a nice cafe in Fira. Athens was also nice, we never booka guided tour, in Athens we took the Hop-on Hop-off bus, which is waiting right at he port and took the 3 hours tour. After the tour we had lunch in Athens, a walk in old town and then took the bus back to the port.
In Katakolon we did not take atour to Olympia, just walked across the little town, nice bars and cafes along the seaside. Then walked to the little beach (which is not really nice and well kept, but at least has a bar and showers) for a swim.
Kotor in Montenegro was also a nice stop, comparable to Dubrovnik, nice small streets to stroll around.
Entertainment program was really first class, we loved most of the shows and the entertainers in the bars were one of the best we have seen on ships.
One minor issue on the public decks:
Nobody cares on the towel policy, people start reservibfg deckchairs as from 6 am and nobody cares. I saw people asking the "Pool Butlers" for help and after compalins they removed towels. Once I did it by myself for an older couple looking for deckchairs. The two chairs next to us were reserved for 5 hours, nobody came. I think this policy has to be executed.
Overall, Celebrity did not disappoint, beside the Soot Problems the Cruise was fantastic.
Loved the layout of the Sky Suite with extra space and huge bathrooms but never again would book an aft cabin due to massive soot problems every day. Balcony was nearly unusable.
