Traveled with children

Our family just returned from a 7 night cruise to the Bahamas on the Norwegian Breakaway. I have to say after cruising with Disney and Royal Caribbean that this cruise paled in comparison. The positives were the fun ropes course and the water slides. The kids really enjoyed those and they were great. Also, our room steward provided us with very good service and took good care of our room.

Unfortunately, there were way more negatives than positives. The ship seemed very crowded. Balconies were tiny. 3 kids could not fit out there and play cards. Elevators were hard to get and were often full when they opened. Hallways were very narrow and the pools and decks around the pool were packed. It was impossible to find a chair to sit out or swim during the days at sea. Our room was right over the theater and we could hear the pounding of the music.

The main dining restaurants were SLOW even when we had reservations. Every night it took 2 plus hours to finish our meals because service was so slow and on top of that the food was not that great. Many times it would take 30 minutes or more for us to get drinks or appetizers. We had some good servers that just seemed to be overwhelmed but we also had a few servers who were very rude. It was not the level of service we have experienced on other cruise lines. We didn't pay extra to dine in specialty places but they may have had better service and food. In the three main dining rooms the menus are all the same and there are only slight variations from day to day.
