Arcadia Cruise Review by evelynb23
- Sail Date: July 2014
- Destination: Baltic Sea
Embarkation was so quick and easy and within minutes we boarded the Arcadia. Our cabin had a balcony with 2 chairs, table and foot-stool. The cabin was spacious, clean, loads of wardrobe space, tea, coffee and biscuits, 2 bottles of water in the fridge, safe and pamper kit, Our cabin steward Ajay introduced himself within minutes and was absolutely fantastic throughout our cruise, keeping our cabin ship-shape and surprising us with his towel animals and always had a smile and was willing to chat.
We had Freedom Dining which suited us perfectly and the food was amazing, all served by friendly waiters. The Belvedere restaurant had a great selection of food at breakfast, lunch and for evening snacks. Everything was clean and the staff there work very hard to keep tables clear for guests.
Afternoon tea was great, although I thought a bit hurried, the Chocolate afternoon tea had a fabulous selection of cakes, trifles and puddings. A few pounds went on that afternoon.
The deck bar worked hard to feed everyone who needed a snack before the evening meal.
All of the bars had a good selection of drinks at more realistic prices than other cruise ships I could mention, again all with staff who deserve a pat on the back for their politeness and good humour.
Cannot comment on the spa as I thought it was way too expensive for what it was, so we didn't use it., but it did look nice.
The entertainment team, they were all absolutely superb, working hard constantly to keep the guests entertained in the different venues throughout the ship. Nick and John, they were so funny and entertained everbody who took part in the quiz in the Piano bar all the days we were at sea. They made a great pair and John was excellent on the piano, even though we couldn't guess the tune. Headliners who did the show were fabulous and Killer Queen was spectacular. We had some great acts on stage who all perfomed to a high standard.
One of the biggest gripes of previous reviews has been the volume of people with disability scooters, wheelchairs etc. Yes there were people using these, they did not cause disruption, were polite and friendly and all I can say is "Well done to you all for having the guts to still go on holiday and to keep your independence and for enjoying yourselves". We met a well seasoned traveller of 20 years who we called Dora the Explorer, what a great lady she was and although she was in her 80s could out-do us younger folk with her energy and stamina. Well done to her, she was an inspiration to us all.
We took some lovely tours and also explored ourselves, sometimes using the shuttle bus to get to the centre. The 2 day Simply St. Petersburgh was great, but very tiring as they are long days and have quite a bit of walking to do.
Disembarkation was again problem free, quick and easy with cases there ready to collect.
Overall, a fantastic cruise, with friendly staff, a clean stateroom, great food, brilliant entertainment, , really good sail away parties, fantastiic ports to visit, friendly fellow passengers and an amazing captain who loved to share his good humour with the passengers everday over the tannoy.
We had an amazing time and would not hesitate to go back on the Arcadia again.
