Sail Date: Jul 2014

We had a wonderful time on this seven day Western Caribbean sailing and Carnivals Conquest is a great ship. We would not hesitate to book again. One item worth noting, the staff does not enforce dress code in the main dining room. I noticed someone wearing basketball shorts and flip flops in the dining room on the formal night "cruise elegant night". While the service and food is top notch in the dining room, you may want to book the steakhouse for a few nights like we did. The steakhouse on Carnival Conquest is excellent and you wont encounter passengers wearing flip flops to dinner on formal night..

This is the first time we opted for "anytime dining" in the main dining room and we really enjoyed it. The longest we had to wait for a table was five minutes and we always received a table for two. We liked "anytime dining" so much, we switched our dining option to "anytime dining" for the two cruises we have coming up this fall. The Lido deck buffet was relatively good and we did not encounter long lines. This is the first time we tried the Carnival 4.0 Guy Fieri Hamburger venue. While other passengers seemed to thoroughly enjoy this venue, the heart attack inducing hamburger was extremely greasy and was not good. We ended up eating part of it and throwing the rest away. I can't quite figure out what everyone sees in this hamburger venue but, oh well, I guess there is something for everyone. We also tried the "sea day brunch" in the main dining room and the food was excellent.

We opted for Carnivals shore excursion to the Mayan ruins at Xunantunich while we were in Belize and we were not disappointed. Although the motor coach ride is two hours in each direction, the tour was fascinating and provide a well balanced overview of the country. While we were in Cozumel, we went to Nachi Cochim Beach Club for a relaxing afternoon. In Roatan Honduras, we took Carnivals catamaran snorkel and had a good time. One note, we did stop in Puerto Maya for a day. Unless you like very aggressive shop vendors or sitting in an overcrowded pool listening to pounding music and indulging in overpriced drinks, this is not a great port. We walked around, saw the entire port and were back on the ship in less than two hours. If we went to Puerto Maya again, we would not bother to get off the ship. While we have pointed out a few negative items, overall the cruise was very good. The crew on Carnivals Conquest worked hard and with a few minor exceptions provided excellent service.

Cabin Review

Carnival assigned us to deck nine Lido balcony cabin 9289. The air conditioning in this cabin was not sufficient and the occupants of the cabins on either side of us had the same complaint. When we brought it to the attention of the guest services department, they did not even bother to send someone from engineering to check out the issue. Moreover, guest services projected an attitude of not being concerned and were unapologetic. Our cabin steward told us he receives the same complaint on every cruise and to contact guest services. We're sure guest services hears about the issue frequently and the problem must be something that is not easily rectified. We tried staying out of our cabin as much as possible so we could enjoy the air conditioning in the public areas of the ship and it was near impossible to sleep in our cabin. One other note, if you are staying in 9289 and enjoy a very warm cabin, be prepared for the sound of deck chairs being slammed around and stacked every morning at 2am on deck 10 above you. We would highly recommend that you avoid this cabin! Stay on a lower deck so you don't encounter deck noise.
