Brilliance of the Seas, BALTICS CRUISE and PORT INFO
It has been almost ten years since I cruised the Baltic Sea, and I am glad I returned there on the Brilliance. A Baltic Sea itinerary is ideal since the largest cities and some of the best scenery of this area are right on the coastline and easily accessible by cruise ship. More about those ports later in this review.
THE SHIP: The Brilliance is an ideal medium-size, with pleasant public areas, comfortable cabins, lots of large windows to frame the scenery, and nice remodels and refurbishments since its dry dock last year. The ship is beautifully maintained and does not show its age. It is easy to navigate within the ship, and one feels at home very quickly.
There are only three Studio Interiors, which were added to the Brilliance during its 2013 dry dock. They are small (about 100 square feet, a little less than 10 square meters), but they are comfortable and have full sized bathrooms. The single bed is in an alcove with a flat screen TV at the foot of the bed. There is the usual desk, closet, mini-fridge, and bedside table. The SI's are located just off the Centum (Atrium) near Guest Relations, but the noise from that area is not audible. There is a mechanical hum, but it is not bothersome. The hall serves as an emergency exit for the adjacent dining room (again, not audible). Recommended, if you are solo and lucky enough to find an SI available -- they usually do not appear on cruise search engines.
