Embarkation was slick and efficient. We drove to Southampton, free parking was part of the deal. Easy to find the berth, Parked, unloaded bags, porter whizzed them away, didn't see them again until in cabin. Car was taken away, receipt given, Less than five minutes. Check in was painless as was passing through airport type security. Past ship's photographers, does anyone ever buy those ghastly photos? Had very nice snack lunch with champagne in the Meridian. Waited for the ok to go to the cabin. It was spotless on arrival, not one complaint. We chose freedom dining, and were happy to share a table. Good idea, having been stuck with some gruesome diners in previous fixed time and tables in the past. Most mixes were good, apart from one where they were all braying about how many cruises they had been on. Never had to wait more than a minute or two to get a table. The food was up to a good standard bearing in mind how many meals were presented. Go for freedom dining, you are not rushed to finish on a time as is the case in fixed. Tried East restaurant once, very disappointed, had better food and service in our local pub. Ocean Grill was very good, service and food well worth the extra charge which incidentally was less than East. Headliners entertainment not up to much. Comedian Martin Gold told jokes so old, we remembered them from schooldays, and that was some time ago. Up in the Crows Nest bar there was often an excellent jazz group and another night a classical pianist, much better. Organised trips around Iceland were all good apart from whale watching when all whales had disappeared. The scenery around Iceland was quite spectacular, glaciers, steam, bubbling mud pools, snow and eggs being hard boiled in a stream all added to the difference. Faroe Islands and Orkneys great, never been there before and enjoyed the experience. In all a good cruise, but would probably go back to Princess Cruises in future
