First Cruise

Sail Date: July 2014
Destination: Mediterranean
Embarkation: Palma de Mallorca
We are a 60 years old couple , travelling with an 85 year old parent , sailing from Palma for 7 nights Mediterranean Medley cruise.

Flight and transfers to the ship was quick and hassle free.Checked in to cabins 5084/5086 and these are outside plus cabins.Found our accomodation to be clean , comfortable ,well appointed and well cared for by our cabin steward Cecep who was hard working and very friendly.

There is a huge choice of dining options. The buffet in the Lido and Sirens was absolutely fine with loads of choice.

In answer to moans about self service. The decision to have staff serving the food is due to hygene issues and is understandable when you see how some people behave. In spite of signage and instruction we still saw people walk past the hand sanitisers and in to the restaurants where we also saw people pick up food and put it back.... Yuk !

If there is any illness on board , blame these people , not the ship or the More staff.

We dined mostly in the Orion with waiter service , found the food to be really good and the service by the waiters superb.Special mention to our waiters who were attentive and genuinely friendly and looked after us all week.Rey , Yudi and our drinks waiter Siegfred.

There were lots of activities and entertainment which you could join in or just watch. The bars and lounges are very comfortable and well appointed and though we are not great drinkers , found the bar service very good. The entertainments team were brilliant. We watched the show in the broadway show lounge each evening and it was superb. The singing , dancing , sets and lighting were very professional and way above the usual holiday reps standard.

Port visits.

Had misgivings before we travelled due to Dad`s limited mobility , but fears were groundless.

- Pretty seaside town with train connection to Nice or Monaco.Access by tender boat which is well organised and easy to do.About 500 yds to Villefranche train station , up two flights of stairs.Train tickets about 7 euros return. We went to Monaco ( Tip : When exiting the train station descend two escalators and turn left to access the open top hopper bus or cross the road and go downhill to the Marina.)

Working port for visiting Pisa or Florence.

Florence a bit far so chose Pisa.Tip ( Go to the port exit where there are Taxis waiting , they charge 120 Euro to Pisa and return after 2 hours.Taxis seat 8 , so suggest waiting to ask others to share. We shared with a charming couple from Belfast and shared the cost which was good value as our driver was great and pointed out landmarks as we drove in to Pisa.)

Another tender port which was well organised and presented no travel problems.Be aware that the beach area is limited and sun loungers etc are extortionate , but a very pretty stopover.

What a nice surprise ! Beautiful South of France city.

Easy to disembark and a mini train at the dock to take you to the beach area with gardens and to the town centre with its vibrant market.Loved Toulon.

If fully mobile the Ramblas is easily accesible from the dock.Head for the Columbus statue then left.

We chose to board the open top bus which does a circuit of the city.27 euros.

Word of warning , while you can get on and off , the buses still go one way and go all around the city before bringing you back to port.

To sum up , our first cruise was very enjoyable. We were very well looked after and visited some nice places. Less
