My wife and I decided on a 7 day cruise out of Galveston on the Carnival Magic with port calls at Honduras, Belize, and Mexico. This was our 3rd. cruise with Carnival, the others also being Caribbean cruises. The good: nice well appointed ship, excellent housekeeping and waitstaff in the dining room, fun and interesting experiences at our ports of call. The bad: they might want to re-brand this a s a Disney cruise because the kids were allowed to run the ship, literally, running and screaming at all times and in all public areas, and for the most part unrestrained by either Carnival staff or their indifferent and rude parents. In addition to the noise factor this was also a safety issue both for the kids and the passengers that they were running into, or running through. On several occasions I observed kids sitting at the bar where alcohol was being served, which meant no seats for the adults who wanted a drink. The food quality on the Magic is not what it was on our first two cruises with Carnival (both on the Conquest) and left much to be desired. Communication regarding upcoming port calls and debarkation instructions was extremely poor and PA announcements were delivered by people who were not native English speakers and who were impossible to understand. The bottom line for me is that Carnival makes no effort (zero) to control guest behavior and enforce safety rules, perhaps a few lawsuits in this area will get their attention because nothing else seems to. Carnival seems a good value compared to other cruise lines but sometimes you get what you pay for - in our case that was a week's worth of rude people, largely apathetic staff, and food that was mediocre at best.
