We planned our trip a year in advance . We wanted to renew our vows for our Anniversary since we eloped our first time. With our 4 kids& us in two rooms with adjoined, We bought new suits and dresses for the kids. My husband bought a tux and I bought a gown... Not just any gown... ThE GOWN. I spent a small fortune on it , but hey.. I wanted to do it right. We arranged in advance all of our gluten free needs including the cake. When we arrived on the ship, it was enormous. Our rooms were beautiful. We had our beach fun pkg my husband bought and flowers he had placed in their before arrival that we vibrant and tropical. I was elated. We unpack our stuff and meet our stewardess, Ricarrdo, who was amazingly sweet then we set out for some dinner. We were greeted by a dietician who looked after people with food allergies. She tells you what options are available to you. I have Celiacs Disease and therefor require a gluten free diet. I order fish and baked loaded potato. It comes and the dietician comes with the food to make sure it is right. I asked 2 times if she was sure it was gluten free. She said yes & tells me to eat & I must taste the food. Next to my baked potato was a small cheese sauce in a dipping size cup which I used to dip chunks of potato in. A few bites in, the texture is wrong and chewy. I dump the remainder of the cheese sauce on the plate to see noodles are in the sauce. We flag down the dietician & asked if my meal was suppose to have this & she said no. Immediately I ran back to our cabin to try and make myself vomit. Before I stepped on the ship, I took a lot of anti naseau meds for motion sickness, so nothing is comming out. I'm dry heaving & gagging myself so much that I urinated all over the floor. Then the pain hits. Burning and cramping. I crawl to my bag and get my steroids. The staff at the customer service desk offer to have me checked by the doctor & they don't understand enough English, that there is nothing he could do. Meanwhile, my abd swells & painful to touch, then my bones start hurting. The pain meds aren't cutting it. My husband has the bartender get us buckets of ice & we used our ziplock baggies we packed & began iceing my body. I knew at that moment the vow renewal was off cause I wouldn't be able to fit into my gown. It was going to a week of hell. I wanted to go home. They SAY they gaurantee their vacations, but they don't. I was stuck. I became so week after the diarrhea kicked in, I had to use a wheel chair to be pushed around in. They sent an apology from the kitchen in the form of a written card on top off some tiny pieces of CAKE. Not gluten free either. Bit just pissed me off more. My husband took pictures of the menue for the night & nowhere on it was Mac n cheese. My husband tried to make the best of it by dosing me up and taking me out of our room to look around. I don't remember most of it. I remember there were chickens on one island, shopping at what looked like a flea market at another island, and I don't remember one island at all. My husband took pics of which I'm drooling on myself in because I'm so doped up on pain killers. A few times, my husband tried to have me go to the dinning room as a family, unfortunately, every time I ate, I would start cramping followed by diarrhea. I gave up. They started bring food to the room so we could all be together. I had to be near a toilet at all times because everything went through me. The kids took turns baby sitting me. I was hungry all the time because nothing stays in the stomach and the intestine cannot absorb anything because it was burned off from exposure to gluten which irritates the mucosal lining. No sky course for the kids that week. I really looked forward to that trip & it was horrible. I tried to get a refund or a redo so we could do our vow renewal. They refused both. I'm still trying to get back the $ from the vow renewal we didn't get. There general attitude is too bad so sad & sucks to be you. I don't recommend Carnival cruise to anybody, including the ones I'm not fond of. The biggest problem is communication followed by a lack of education. Ricardo was awesome with the kids and was helpful with anything we asked or needed. I would be in bed one min, on the toilet the next, come out to a clean room and a made bed which I would immediately get into again. He was so fast. When we departed the ship, I lost 10 pounds & was too weak to walk that far & had to be wheeled out. We had previously planned to spend a few days after the trip in New Orleans but decided their is no place like home and drove immediately home to Tulsa, Oklahoma. I got ahold of my doctor & told him what happened. He wanted me to do another round of steroids and some more pain meds. Over the course of the next two weeks, I slowly get my strength back and put back on the 10 I lost.
