I booked a last minute getaway for July 4 weekend. we were supposed to go to St John, New Brunswick, but were rerouted to Bermuda, to the delight of virtually everyone on board. Instead of the tail end of a hurricane in chilly seas, we got a slightly bumpy ride down to beautiful weather.

I have gone on 8 cruises on 6 lines, including one prior cruise on the Carnival Conquest. The Splendor is, by far, the ugliest ship I have ever seen. Carnival is known for its loud interiors, but this ship crosses the line to just plain hideous. The recurring theme is one pf big circles filled with pink and silver zebra stripe patterns. It is garish, and leave nowhere for the eye to rest. The designers must be colorblind, as must everyone in the company who approved this design.

The buffet deck was always crowded, except when it was closed, which seemed to be scheduled for the convenience of the ship, and not for any concern for the passengers. From 2:30-5, lines for pizza, burgers and deli sandwiches were ENORMOUS, Soft serve "ice cream" was always available but rather nasty. If you wanted a salad or fresh fruit during those hours, you were out of luck (though I did consider ordering a salad at 3 PM, with instruction that it be delivered to the Lido Deck). Meals in the dining room were not impressive. You can tell that they are cutting back on food quality.

Cabin Review

There is ONE 110 volt electrical outlet in the room, and it is a far as is physically possible from the bed. If you need an extension cord (medical device, anyone), they will lend you a HUGE cord for a $25 deposit. There is a lot pf closet space. The room was always IMMACULATE. The stewards work HARD.
