I was worried when I read a couple of negative reviews before our cruise but we had an excellent experience from beginning to end. Honestly, I didn't see anyone who wasn't enjoying themselves. Yes, it's a smaller ship than we're used to and it's older too, but it is in great shape and the crew couldn't have tried harder to ensure our good time. The food choices on this size ship are more limited. We missed the promenade pizza bar for example on Liberty of the Seas, our last family cruise ship, but we managed just fine.

My husband and I were on Allure this past year and it is an amazing experience that is a destination in itself. Rhapsody is not that, but it accommodated us nicely. We never felt crowded and always found seating in the Windjammer and the lovely main theatre. I wondered if that central atrium would be packed but each night there was room to dance and watch others have a good time.

Because my husband and I took Mariner of the Seas from Galveston to Shanghai for 51 nights in 2013, we know the RCCL menu very well. We missed some of the good Indian curries, etc. on Rhapsody and the buffets were more limited, but we all found things we enjoyed eating. The highlight every night was all of us gathering in the main dining room at 8:00 to enjoy a rather leisurely dinner and recap of the day. There was no table for 12 but we had two six person tables side by side and that worked. (Note to RCCL - we love you but the person who came up with the idea of our poor waiter holding up a large board displaying the expensive extra choices on an otherwise excellent menu is cheapening the experience and should be replaced. I told him to put that away immediately and not show it to us again. I think he was relieved.)

Cabin Review

The cabins are expectedly small but comfortable. We usually get a balcony but for Alaska a room with a view is fine. It's cold out there. I understand that it's easier to manage the space with the head of the bed under the window but I can't imagine who would want to lie there and look at the door instead of beside a window with a gorgeous view of Alaskan scenery. We had four cabins and we had them all rearranged to take advantage of the view. The stewards balked but politely did it. I appreciated their efforts.
