We had a wonderful time aboard the Carnival Spirit, which left San Diego on a Mexican Riviera Cruise on 1/27/07. We truly enjoyed being part of the Carnival Vacation Club. The CVC staff on the ship, Monnet, his wife, Margarite(?), etc were all very enthusiastic and welcoming to us each time we stopped in and had some champagne. We really enjoyed the CVC members only cocktail parties and the dancing. The cruise was nice and we dined once at the Supper Club, which was outstanding. We had dined last year at the Supper Club on the Pride and were very disappointed. This time it was all excellent. The rest of the food was ok, but nothing spectacular. We were at the late seating and had a table for 4, but there was only two of us. We were seated next to an aisle that the waiters brought the food up from below and it was very noisy. Our waitress tried to quiet it down, but it remained noisy. We should of asked to be moved to another table. The mushroom and goat cheese pizza is still wonderful. The desserts were average, except in the Supper Club. However, you can get desserts from the shop that sells desserts and they are really worth it! Be sure not to miss the Hypnotist-he is amazing. Go to both the evening show and the R rated one-it's very interesting! Our only complaint would be that we went on a "City Tour" in Acapulco, which did not turn out to be as described on the ship. We did not want a tour that spent most of it's time shopping, but wanted to really see some on the city, the town square, etc. This tour and the tour operator took us to see the Cliff Divers, then we went to a Silver Factory, where we spent over an hour. There was a 5 minute tours of some people putting silver jewelry together, then the rest of the time you were suppose to shop in it's store. Needless to say, we were not happy. Then we went to "Linda's Vista" to see the outline of the bay from above and there was more shopping there for silver. As we were leaving this place, a taxi ran into the bus and we had to all get out and wait for another bus for about a half hour. At least we were offered a free drink. Then we spent about the next hour driving up the coast line. As we were coming back to the ship, about an 1 1/2hours late, the driver volunteered to drop any of us off that wanted to visit the Zocolo-the main square. He said he would drop us off and we could walk back to the ship. By then it was about 7pm, dark outside and we were not getting off the bus in a strange city at that hour! Needless to say, we were very disappointed. We complained to the Excursions, Desk, but they did little other than send us a letter informing us that the matter was being looked into. For all that, we got to spend $78.00! Next time we will book a Cultural Tour. However, besides that, everything was wonderful. We also were upgraded to a 9A room- the extra large balcony or small suite room. It was a surprise and great!
