My wife and I enjoyed seeing Alaska again and experiencing the Holland America approach, the first 2 visits were on Celebrity. Overall the ship is easy to get around on and quite pretty in a simple but elegant style. The food was very good, even at the buffet, which was a pleasant surprise. Lately cruise food seems to have declined in general...but Westerdam excelled in the dining room pretty much every night. Room service was hit or miss and somewhat disappointing, but still edible. The bars served up good drinks and at fair prices. Nice ! I must commend all the staff that we met, they were very polite, professional and really tried to assist in the best way that they could. An example was how they handled our stateroom problem. We booked cabin #4179, a balcony on the back of the ship overlooking the wake. It is larger than normal and has a large, but open roofed balcony....not good if it rains. Our problem, and we were not alone, was a lack of hot water. Several days went by with luke warm water at best. Many other rooms also had the same issue. The ship's staff genuinely tried to fix it and showed true concern for our discomfort. When it was fixed, day 5, they still called to check on us daily. Nice to know we were not ignored. The shows onboard were some of the best we have seen...great vocalists, band, and WOW were the sets amazing. So glad we went. In summary, Alaska is a grand destination and Westerdam is a good way to go.

Cabin Review

good size, great location with a view overlooking the wake. No roof, a potential problem on rainy days.
