Carnival Magic Cruise Review by jdayw
- Sail Date: April 2014
- Destination: Western Caribbean
The ship is very large which made it difficult for newbies like us to get acquainted with where to find things. We are 'stairs' people (gotta work off all those food calories somehow) which made it a little quicker to get around since we weren't waiting for elevators.
The entertainment on the ship was OK, not great. The only production show we enjoyed was the talent show on the last night. We did go to several comedy shows which were all pretty good. Both of the musicians that played on the Lido deck and Red Frog Pub were very talented and played a pleasing variety of mostly older songs. Enjoyed watching movies on the Lido deck each night. Surprisingly there were never many people out there so it was pretty wide open as far as seating was concerned.
Food was good. We ate at the Steakhouse the first night and got a free bottle of wine (anyone who eats there on the first night gets one free bottle.) Took forever to get through all of the courses---way too much time waiting in between, in my opinion. Only ate there once, and that was enough. Also ate in the Italian restaurant one night which was AMAZING. For $12 per person it is well worth it. We had six people in our party and absolutely everyone LOVED their food. Service here was much quicker than Steakhouse. Wish we had 'discovered' this restaurant earlier in the trip---would have loved to have eaten there again.
Worst part of the cruise was the debarkation process. Because one of our ports was Belize, which is not a U.S. sanctioned port, there were a lot of delays getting through customs. We made the mistake of waiting for a a sky cab to help our party with all of our luggage...took 90 minutes!! Won't do that again.
All in all, it was a fantastic first cruise experience---so much so that we cancelled our original summer vacation plans in favor of booking another cruise in August!
