I enjoy cruising. The wife and I have traveled to Alaska twice and we have enjoyed many cruises in the Caribbean. So Hawaii just seem to be another great choice for a cruise. This however was our first trip on a NCL ship. We choose Pride of Aloha because of the ports of call and time in each port. also the fact that NCL cruises by at night so you can see the lava flow at the big Island. The length of the cruise work well for both of us since both of us have very busy jobs. Honolulu and Waikiki beach were very nice, in fact we enjoyed all the islands. The ship canceled one port call (Kona) due the weather and high winds. NCL started off great, Getting on the ship was quick and easy, and the ship's crew directed us to our cabin very well. The main public areas had a Hawaiian look that was over done and out dated I though, But very clean. The carpet was poorly installed in most areas, and a little paint would help refresh the exterior walking areas. When we arrived in our cabin, we quickly noticed the lack of space in the room, the poor condition of the carpet, and the lack of amenities such as soap, shampoo. The bathroom had dispensers for soap and shampoo, but each was empty. The towels were worn out and stain in some cases. Don't expect a mint on the pillow each night, For us it only happen twice. I overheard the room stewart tell another guest that they were out of mints. This seem to be the theme for other shortages on the ship. Our first night the crew had a BB-Q on the top deck, this was very poorly plan out. hamburgers and Hot dogs with some of the fixings were served from two portable buffet bars, which were not big enough for 1700 passengers who were hungry. the Main restaurant was closed the first night, the only other choice was the Buffet.

NCL's entertainment lack alot. a magic show, and some off key singers reliving the 50's and 60's were the main thrust of their entertainment. The Main dining food was good, however the help may rush you through a meal if you eat early, and maybe very slow if you come late in the evening which we would normally do. While ordering your meal you may as well tell the waiter what you want to drink they never ask the whole week, not even and offer from the bar. which amazed me, since we were with a large group of friends and most night our table would have ten or so people. We found that our fellow cruisers acted different then other cruises. They seem to be in a hurry, and you were the object in their way. I felt as if I was in the shopping mall at Christmas. I found this strange since our fellow cruisers on other trip seem to be very nice and polite. Hawaii is worth the trip from the East cost, We loved all the the islands and the people ashore were very kind to us, and very helpful. We will be back again some day, But it will be on land or with another cruise line.
