We had 2 experiences of a lifetime on the Celebrity Century in July 2013. The first was at the Hubbard Glacier stop. The day that we arrived, the weather was impeccable - blue sky and almost t-shirt warm. It allowed our ship to edge up as close to the glacier as possible. The sight of tons of ice calving from 10 stories was awe inspiring. As the Century is a smaller ship, the proximity to the glacier is not something the larger ships are capable of. Creeping into the bay with large ice flows banging up against the hull was a bit eerie as was the bobbing of a 71 thousand ton ship because of the hundreds of tons of ice falling from the glacier. Nevertheless, the experience was amazing!
Our second experience of a lifetime was on a whale watching shore excursion from Juneau. The sight of a 40 ton whale fully breaching out of the water is incredible - the sight of 2 whales breaching simultaneously still stirs up emotions even today as I write about the experience. It was unfortunate that I was not camera ready but take solace that I have the image permanently etched in my mind!
The Celebrity Century Alaskan Cruise experience was exceptional. Food was incredible, on board entertainment was professional and overall service was impeccable. Our cabin was comfortable, the ships amenities plentiful such as the shops, spa, gym, hot tubs, pool, casino, etc. Our most favourite daily past time however was to watch the amazing scenery as the ship lumbered it's way up the coast - our most prized possession was our set of binoculars that was almost an after thought to bring along.
