After reading all of the negative reviews of the Breakaway I wasn't expecting too much. I have cruised many times on most of the large cruise lines. This was my 4th time on NCL previously sailing twice on the Epic and once on the Gem. Boarding was a breeze. We arrived at the pier at 10:30 and were onboard by 11:15. We did have priority boarding being part of the Casinos at Sea group but regular boarding started very soon after. Cabins were ready immediately which was nice.

The ship is beautiful. Very tastefully decorated. Our cabin 5780 oceanview was a decent size with a good size bathroom and plenty of closet space. I thought the cabin was rather bland in decor. Not much color or pizzazz. Even the picture on the wall had no color. It was very functional with plenty of space to walk around. Beware of this location. Directly above on the deck plan it shows empty space which turns out is galley space which services some of the restaurants on deck 6. We heard a good amount of noise at various times of the day including late at night. We were offered a cabin change but the thought of packing up again left little to be desired so we decided to stay. I sleep with earplugs anyway so I didn't hear a thing. My roomate can sleep through anything. I was very happy with Guest Services. They offered us the cabin change right away and checked back with us a few times. They also sent a bottle of wine and some chocolate covered strawberries which was nice since we chose to stay in the cabin.

We were blessed with excellent weather and calm seas which is unusual for leaving out of New York in the dead of winter. We were able to sit out most days including our first day at sea. There were plenty of deck chairs. If you must have a chair right by the pool it could be a problem but plenty of chairs everywhere else.

Cabin Review

Cabin 5780. Very noisy due to galley above. Very bland in color. Plenty of space to walk around. Good closet space. Terrible TV programming.
