Relaxing, Peaceful and Perfect...

Sail Date: February 2014
Destination: Southern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)
We are have been married for 35 years and taken 15 cruises. RCCL is the only cruise line we have used. We decided to try Celebrity because we had heard it is less "loud" and more adult.

We arrived at 10:30 at port. We had a concierge balcony room so we had a special check in line when we got to port. (Although there were no lines anywhere) check in was quick and painless! We noticed when we got our sea pass cards we didn't have a dining table # on it. I guess Celebrity doesn't put those on your cards ( really have no idea why). They have a dining table card in your room. We were allowed to board around 11:30.

The ship is beautiful! The greeting with champagne was a nice touch. We went to the Oceanview Cafe for lunch. It is similar to the Windjammer but the food is much better! There is also an outside area where you can take your food and eat! After a LONG winter it was great to sit outside and enjoy the sun. We had received the free drink package so we ordered a More specialty drink strawberry watermelon mint drink. Very good! We aren't big drinkers but it was nice to have an occasional drink plus all the bottled water we wanted.

Our room was ready around 1pm. It was a balcony midship close to the elevators. The location was perfect! The room was more upscale than RCCL but similar set up. The bathroom is a bit bigger with lots of spaces for your cosmetics. The shower had a great shower head and was bigger than RCCL. The actual room storage areas were a bit challenging. The main storage for your non hanging items are overhead cabinets above the bed. We did fine with these but if you're not taller you might have to climb on the bed to get your stuff out. The TV was a large flat screen that came out and turned toward the bed. The TV stations were news channels and foreign Espn. The great thing is they also had a LARGE NUMBER of FREE on demand movies which was nice at night when we wanted to watch movies in bed! The balcony had adjustable lounge chairs with footstools for relaxing. The bed was comfortable and we received a "pillow menu" since we were concierge class and we could pick our pillow.

Concierge class- in our's not worth paying much extra for .... You get 4 pieces of fruit in your cabin everyday ( like you can't find them in the Oceanview Cafe) also receive flowers everyday, an afternoon snack delivered to your stateroom ( which we never did because we don't want it sit in our room and wait for it to come ), your breakfast room service menu is better, your room attendant will shine your shoes... That's about it.

I am not going to review the ports as they have been reviewed numerous times plus we spent the majority of our time relaxing on loungers by the pool. The loungers are wonderful. They are padded and have coverlets on them which were changed out daily when they got dirty. We are shade people as I have had several cancer issues. There are MANY spots to relax in the shade and watch the ocean. The windows on the pool deck are floor to ceiling to give a very open feeling plus they have windows you can open for a nice breeze. We tried the solarium area but found the wood connected chairs to be uncomfortable and hard to get into and out of. I did spend an afternoon reading in a "bed hammock" and it was AMAZING! The BIGGEST difference between Celebrity and RCCL is the pool area is QUIET! Except for Zumba twice a day and the "Question of the Day" the only other thing heard was a quiet guitar player. ALSO, there weren't a hundred annoying announcements and stupid pool games! There were 24 kids under 18 on our trip so there was no issue with kids running wild. The kids who were on the ship were VERY well behaved.

Food in the main dining room was pretty good. We felt there were a lot of menu items that didn't really look like they were described. I never complain about food because I don't have to fix it, serve it, or clean it up so I did fine with their food. The portions were very small which can be good BUT if something comes with mashed potatoes you shouldn't be able to eat the entire portion in one tiny bite or search for it on your plate. Desserts were the same way... A chocolate bundt cake was the size of a quarter...the BEST sized item I had was the delicious French onion soup that came in a nice sized bowl and was WONDERFUL!

The entertainment was typical cruise ship fare. They had a Celebrity Central Theatre where they showed movies on the big screen at night. Very comfy seats...we saw Captain Phillips. They also had classes on IPADS during the day in there and a comedian certain nights.

Our overall experience was fantastic! We are moving our loyalties to Celebrity! As RCCL diamonds we receive ELITE status with Celebrity which is WAY BETTER than all the worthless "coupon book crap" you get with RCCL. We received a total of 180 free internet minutes... ( which we had a hard time using up), we were able to have our clothes laundered and folded twice (30 pieces each time free), we got two items dry cleaned free, 4 things ironed, plus free gelato! We were so surprised how useful their perks were to us.

We signed up for a b2b on the reflection in November....good bye RCCL! Less
