As good as advertised

Sail Date: January 2014
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)
My wife and I have been on 5 previous cruises with RCCL and we consider ourselves loyal to Royal. For the first time we traveled to Ft Lauderdale the day before we set sail. We stayed at a great location and had a view of the port from our balcony. From now on we will always go the day before and stay at this hotel.

We woke up on the day of departure and saw the Allure docked and looking beautiful. We waited on our hotel balcony having our morning beverage until it was time to take the shuttle to the ship.

We got to the ship before 11:00am. We were all checked in and waiting in the suite lounge a few minutes later. We were walking on to the ship about 11:30. We went to the Windjammer for lunch and we were the first guests that walked in. The food was good and we had our pick of tables. We ate lunch and went to explore the ship.

This ship is absolutely awesome. We had previously been on the Oasis so we knew what to expect. All of the public areas were in such More great shape that she looked new. The crew does an amazing job of taking care of this ship.

Our room (8254) was ready at 1:00 pm. One of our bags was waiting at the door when we walked up and the other arrived just as we were looking at our cabin. Grand Suite for this sailing because of a celebration. This cabin might have spoiled us for future cruises. The cabin had plenty of storage between the large closet and multiple dresser drawers throughout the room. The bathroom had a large double sink and a bathtub/shower. There were more drawers and a vanity in the bathroom as well. The balcony had two chairs with a table and also two lounges with a small table.

The entertainment on this cruise was great. We had pre-booked all of our shows and I highly recommend future guests do the same. Chicago, Mo5aic (headliner), the ice show, the diving show, and the comedians were all great. This entertainment was the best we had experienced when compared to our other cruises.

The food seems to be a hot topic for complaining. We ate all but one dinner in the main dining room. We found the food to range from very good to average. However, I refuse to complain because not once did we have to prepare or clean up after the meal. If you don't like something ask for a new meal. If you do not get enough of something ask for more. If you eat better than that on a nightly basis then I need to come to your home for dinner.

We did eat at Giovannis for a special celebration dinner. The food and service was beyond our expectations.

We had breakfast and lunch at various spots around the ship. Did not have a bad experience and we did not do any up-charge locations. There are plenty of included venues that offer good food. One last thing, the roastbeef sandwiches are as good as I recall from our Oasis cruise.

As non-smokers we discovered you had to avoid deck 15 port side. Although it is outside, it is still under cover and smoke lingers. There were times it was difficult to walk on deck 15 without coughing. I do appreciate not smelling smoke on our cabin balcony.

We got the soda package and found it convenient. We do not drink enough to make the alcohol package worth the price. Just a few drinks of the day here and there.

Unfortunately the stops take a backseat to this ship, she is the destination. With all there is to do on this ship you do not need to get off at the ports.

All of the service we found to be great. Our cabin steward worked very hard and seemed to be invisible when necessary and present when needed, he was wonderful. Our dining room staff appeared to be overworked and sometimes overwhelmed. They did their best to make sure our food arrived hot and ready as ordered.

This was our best cruise to date. Between the fabulous weather (not within RCCL control), the entertainment, the service, and this great ship. We will be back on RCCL, just waiting for Quantum and/or the 3rd Oasis class ship. Less

Cabin review: 8254

This cabin ruined us for other cabins. We normally stay in a balcony cabin, however nothing like this.Cabin 8254 was huge. It had plenty of storage with a large closet and plenty of drawers. There was a large bathroom with a double sink and a bathtub/shower. The balcony had two chairs with a table and also two lounges with a small table.
