Grandeur of the Seas - Western Caribbean

Sail Date: January 2007
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: New Orleans
for starters, the flight from new york to new orleans on delta was great.. got to the airport, which was empty, and by the time we went to collect our bags, they were already rounding the carousel. now for one of my few complaints.. the royal caribbean reps were very hard to find.. you are supposed to meet them by baggage carousel 8.. when we arrived there, there was no one there... no signs, no nothing... after standing there for o few minutes trying to figure out what to do, i noticed someone walk into the area with a RC nametag, who just sat down on a bench.. if you were never on a royal caribbean cruise before, you would have no idea who she was... anyway, that was about the biggest mishap on this cruise... the cruise terminal was great... my wife and i are platinum members.. we were taken to a special line which was empty, and checked in immediately since we had earlier filled out the seapass online... we were then taken right to the front of the security line.. membership has More its privileges.. all in all, we were on the ship in 5 minutes from when we entered the terminal..

the ship itself.. the exterior looks a bit worn.. what do you want for an 11 year old ship... there is a big dent in the front on the starboard side from its mishap in costa maya last year, but no big deal... the interior is very nice.. and very clean.. it was hard to believe that it was 11 years old... if you look hard enough, you can spot some wear, like scratches in wood or a cracked tile, but very few and far between...

food.. i am a very picky eater and i thought that the food was great... especially in the dining room... the staff were very attentive and tried very hard to make your trip memorable... my complaints there were that the desserts weren't very good and the bar service was extremely slow.. i ended up waiting at least 15 minutes each night to sign for my bill. the windjammer buffet was a typical buffet... the food quality was very good... but could have been hotter..... the burgers, hotdogs and pizza in the solarium were just ok.

we had a standard inside cabin which suited us fine... it was a place to sleep and shower... it was very clean... and our cabin steward, elvis was great... we were in the extreme front of the 4th floor.. which was very lucky, because in the middle of the fourth floor, there was a definite almost sewage smell which wasn't pleasant.. if you have a room in that area, try to switch it to somewhere else.

the entertainment was the best ive seen yet... the coasters headlined the rock and roll night and were very good.. the juggler was great... his light show was very good.... the 3 comedians were very funny... the singers and dancers were ok, but that really isn't my kind of thing...

overall, i would recommend this cruise to anyone looking to simply relax... the ship wasn't as active as the eagle class, but that was a nice change of pace.... if you have any specific questions, feel free to email me.... hope this helped.... Less
