Sail Date: Jan 2014

This was our second time on the Summit, and we would sail on her again. Having just returned from a cruise on the magnificent brand new Royal Princess, our enjoyment of the Summit is saying a lot for this older ship.

The service on the Summit is spectacular. Special praise goes to the dining staff. The maitre'd, servers, and sommelier were first rate at our first seating dinner. We enjoyed the various seating areas, but our favorite spot on the boat was the aft bar area. Even though we had the free drink package (which we upgraded), the service was prompt and friendly. This was the second time we upgraded our drink package and found it to fit our needs perfectly. The food on board was overall good. The burgers at the grill were memorable as was our dinner at Normandie. The pizza was great, and we enjoyed the morning omelets. We never found a problem getting a lounge around the pool and towels were plentiful.

We were a little disappointed in the choices and prices for the ship's excursions, and for the first time ventured out on our own. We felt comfortable in St. Kitt's and found The Lion King. You can't miss his van. He was outstanding as our driver and would recommend him without reserve. We went to Carambola Beach and had a great time. He also gave us the name of other drivers in our next ports. We found a good driver in Grenada as well and had a great tour of just the places our small group wanted to see. Ended our day at Grand Anse beach which was just lovely. For some reason I felt uncomfortably unsafe when getting off the ship in Dominica and we just spent the day on the boat.

Cabin Review

The cabin was very comfortable and we slept well on the bed. Liked the small couch and larger shower. Yes, there is a little rust and aging, but this is an older ship. The service and overall ship experience made you overlook some of the worn spots.
