Sail Date: Dec 2013

This was my second cruise on the Carnival Valor. The last was when she sailed out of Miami, this time was out of San Juan. The offerings were the same but the passenger makeup was very different.

Given that it was winter, I arrived in San Juan the day early (Saturday). I had been tempted by the late departure (10:30 pm) on Sunday to fly down that day. Given how many flights were cancelled that day across the NorthEast due to storms, I am very glad I did not fly down the same day. I would have missed the boat.

I stayed at the Coanado Palm the Saturday night. This is the Best Western Hotel. It is somewhat odd - some parts are quite nice, others needed work. I think this is an older hotel that is being upgraded piece by piece. Okay for the night and about 15 minutes from the airport. Ditto from the cruise port. Coanado beach is a touristy area, and generally okay. The beach is not well suited for swimming. I am told other beaches are more so.

Cabin Review

Cabin has an odd layout. It is located at the very stern so does have more motion than one midships. It is a lower deck so had less motion than one higher.I had been concerned that there would be noise from above (the dining room). There was not from above but a surprising amount from below. It is directly above a machinery area and there was significant noise upon docking (early morning), undocking, and manuvering. When the ship performed a sinking boat rescue at 3:00 am, I knew because of all the noise from below. Glad they did it, but wished it could be somehow quieter.
