Sail Date: Nov 2013

This was our first Transatlantic crossing (Rome  Miami) and the 9 days at sea with a pause in Tenerife (Spanish Canary Islands), followed by St. Kitts, St. Martin and 2 more days at sea proved to be a relaxing getaway. The ship is beautifully maintained, constantly cleaned and generally did not feel overcrowded. It is logically designed for easily finding your way around without getting lost. We were blessed with warm and sunny weather throughout the voyage. There were only a handful of kids and teenagers on board, while hundreds of guests stayed on from the previous Eastern Mediterranean sailing. The large number of Elite level passengers onboard affirmed the loyalty for the Celebrity brand. Captain Pappas and his officers were visible interacting with guests regularly. The staff was always friendly, talkative and eager to ensure we are enjoying the cruise experience.

Pre-cruise: We flew from Toronto to Rome and stayed at Hotel Napoleon for 6 nights to make it a destination vacation. The deal included private transfer from the airport and dinner for two at their restaurant. There were 3 other couples from our roll call at the hotel, and one of them pre-booked our transfer to the port. Due to a civic holiday and road construction the trip took longer than expected but embarkation was well organized and we still made it to the buffet for lunch after dropping off carry on luggage in the cabin.

Cabin: Our mid-ship angled balcony on deck 9 did not disappoint. Easy access to everywhere and very quiet. We met the cabin steward and requested additional hangers for the closet. The inconvenient storage space above the bed is a blemish on an otherwise great cabin layout. The balcony shape and size is larger than what Celebrity website shows. It was about 9 feet wide, 11 feet long on the left, 8 feet on the right, with ample room for the two loungers, chair and a full-height round table. It was fully covered but no overhang, offering almost total privacy. Here’s a tip: there is one remote for the large flat-screen TV, but in the desk drawer there is a keyboard (for internet and games) which can be used as a second remote (i.e. "his” and "hers”). Excellent audio/video functionality for free movies on demand, reruns of ship’s activities and lectures, restaurant menus, guest account and more.
