This was our 5th. cruise aboard the GOS. This one surpassed our expectations, once again. We drove to NOLA arriving at the city was a very overwhelming sight, seeing all the destruction and decay from Katrina. The port was a little congested and not in completion, so it tended to be a little confusing, you had to drop off bags at terminal then park the car back at the deck, and have a long walk back to terminal. We arrived about 11:30AM. and we were sitting in the Windjammer at 12:15PM. so the actual check in went very smoothly. The first two days at sea were rough battling 50mph + winds of course the sea was very choppy and many stayed in cabins because of sea sickness. You could not walk on the open decks because of the wind and the rolling, but I think the captain and the crew did a fabulous job in trying to make us as comfortable as possible. Arriving at Grand Cayman met with sunshine and calm seas. Many other ships there, but we had a great time, we took the Land & Sea exploration and we enjoyed that very much esp. the turtle farm. Visiting Costa Maya, and Cozumel were great, the weather was perfect, although a lot of ships at each port still there was plenty to do. The crew was great, the food, which is always controversial in our opinion was great. We go for the cruise more than we go for visiting the ports. Once again the crew did a tremendous job at making us feel welcome. The ship being 10 years old was very well kept and maintained. On arriving back at NO. the captain and crew encounter a very dense fog on the Miss. river, traveling very slowly and blowing the fog horn about every 10-15 min. but they still got us at port about on time, just a few minutes late, they did a tremendous job of keeping the ship and all of us safe. Disembarkation went very smooth for us our luggage tags were called about 8:30 we exited off the ship went through custom very quickly, got out luggage, I walked to get the car and came back and picked up my wife and baggage, and we were north of New Orleans around 9:30AM. All in all we had a wonderful time.
