We joined the Norwegian Epic in Barcelona for a 13 night transatlantic cruise to Miami. As a party of seven '" 5 adults and 2 children, we had 3 Balcony cabins next door to each other on Deck 9. My husband and I had cruised on the Epic last year on a Med cruise and enjoyed the ship and its facilities.

Our holiday started with an overnight stay at the Holiday Inn, (Povey Cross) Gatwick. We did the stay, park and fly deal, and the cost was around the same for the overnight stay as it was for the long-stay parking costs, so this is also recommended.

Our BA flight arrived in Barcelona around 10:00am local time. This is where we encountered a major problem our bags did not arrive. We later learned that 3,000 bags had been delayed/re-routed due to a baggage handling system failure in Gatwick. I won’t go into the trauma and issues we suffered in detail here, although it spoiled the start of our holiday, it would be unfair for it to reflect on our cruise experience. However, we were without our bags until they arrived on-board in Funchal on 4 days later.

Cabin Review

9076 is located on the 9th Deck, Port side. The cabin is close to the Elevators, approximately 7 cabins along the corridor. The bed in the cabin is by the door. The cabin location is very good, being more mid-forward. This seemed to be a quiet location and sound insulation is good. The shower, sink and toilet are separate, with a curtain dividing the 'bathroom' section. There is ample storage and wardrobe space. Look under the 'pullman' bed for extra drawer space. There is a safe located inside the large curvy cupboard. A coffee maker, tea/coffee and cups are provided along with an ice-bucket.The shower is larger than usual, with a sliding door and no sticky curtain! Only shampoo and gel are provided on wall dispensers. Lighting inside the cabin is excellent, with all manner of spot and overhead lights. There are direct-able small spot lights by the side of the bed for reading. The phone illumination can be turned off by touching the light bulb icon in the top right corner. The cabin has a Samsung TV opposite the bed and all services, reservations and your on-board spend can be found using the interactive options. There are about 27 channels total, 3 news, films, kids etc, some stations are in languages other than English. The Balcony has room for 2 regular chairs and a small table. To the left is start of the 'jutting out' Balconies, so your neighbour is more visible, but this did not affect us. Below under Deck 8 are the lifeboats, which again are visible, but do not detract from any outward views.
