We recently took an 11 day cruise on the Legend of the Seas from Venice to Croatia, Turkey and the Greek Islands. The itinerary was great. The food was below average and the dining service below that.

My wife and I are on our 5th cruise. This was the second on RCI. We previously took RCI to the Eastern Mediterranean. We remembered the great port themed meals, good service and a terrific table at dinner. Despite the My Time meals, This cruises meals were less than memorable. The first and last nights were great. In between, the dining service sputtered with cold and sometimes incomplete dinner entries. We found that a table for two worked great, but the larger service was iffy.

We are both good cooks and enjoy many different cuisines. The menu in the main dining room on the Legend was bland and uninspired at best. The vegetables never changed in 11 days. The starch of the cruise was mashed potatoes with every meat. Desserts appeared several times with only a change in garnish and a different name. When we talked to the Head of Food Service at a Crown and Anchor function, his answer was to ask for more paprika!. Indeed, it seemed as if our waiter was dying to put ground pepper on everything but the dessert. The Head Waiter's answer was to ask for another meal, which is difficult at a full table without holding others up.

In a coincidence, we read another review on this site from our same cabin on an earlier cruise with the same comments. Is the Legend of the Seas a training vessel? There does not seem to be another answer.

Cabin Review

Cabin

Rooms were spacious and were seemingly well appointed with the exception of the mini refrigerator. It did not fit in the cabinet and never seemed to get anything cold despite several repairs by a technician. The cabin suggestion by RCI was great and put us right in the center of the ship close to the Centrum and restaurants without using the elevators.

  • Cape Sounion

Covered all the ancient Athens sites and Cape Sounion. Booked an independent Cab company online. He dropped us for lunch at a great seaside restaurant! Our total bill for two with wine was 12 Euro's.

  • Dubrovnik

The town is great and can be explored independently. Had a wine flight at the local wine shop with cheese for lunch then walked the walls for a great view. Found a great bar with a fantastic view hanging off the side of the wall with a wooden sign just saying "Cold Drinks."

  • Ephesus

requested not to take a rug tour . we ended up in a leather shop instead. Plan on at least one sell job whatever tour you take. We avoided Kusadasi. Most of the people we talked with later had some sort of rude slaes experience in the port town.

  • House of the Virgin Mary

Great experience with an online tour operator. Pick-up and drop off were worry free. we saw much more than the ship tour. Went up the coast to more ancient and intact sites. Tour leader was a history major with a great sense of humor. he took delight in showing us how bad the other tour leaders were and how they made up a lot of the stuff they told their tours.

  • Oia Wine Tasting

We were hustled from one site to the other with only an hour in Oia, 1/2 hour at the winery. The rest was the drive and a not so great tour guide. We were sorry we did not explore on our own, but wanted to catch the first tender.
