Cruising First Timers

Sail Date: October 2013
Destination: Bahamas
Embarkation: Jacksonville
After our first time cruise, I will say we will try this again. The total cost for my wife and myself with everything spent on shore was less than renting a nice condo on the Florida Coast and paying for food.

Other than a bit of bad weather on the last day with unsettled seas, everything was very comfortable,

We parked at the cruise line port lot after unloading. Embarkation was a bit slow. Lots of people. Don't plan on getting in any hurry.

Our room was on the Empress deck and had a queen bed with full window view. Housekeeping was exceptional and everything stayed very clean and orderly. It seems like every time we left the room our steward, "T", was quick to organize the room, refresh towels, and clean. Shower and toilet room was small but was clean and sufficient.

Our choice each morning for breakfast was on the Lido deck at the Coconut Grove buffet. Food was on average was way above most "mass prepared" type restaurant buffets. Plenty of More choices for the most picky eater. For dinner we were in the Imagination dinning room at 6 pm. Very professional waiters. Plenty of food choices on the menu. Quality was not as good as 5 star dining in that again the food is mass prepared before served. Top item on the menu was a desert I ordered 4 out of 5 nights was the melting chocolate cake. A great Baked Alaska on the 5th night.

Stop at Half Moon Cay, was excellent. Exceptionally clean beach. Water is very clear. Nice barbecue provided for lunch. Rented a clam shell to stay out of the sun. Free range chickens roam the island.

Stop at Nassau was much better than anticipated. Mostly did shopping along the main street. Very hot that day. Stay hydrated. Negotiate at the "Straw Mart." Trinkets the wife bought 2 for $5 she bought again further in at $1 each.

Pool and hot tub area was small and normally full. Especially on the return day with bad weather when the water slide was closed.

Debarkation was mostly waiting on ship as they unloaded in zones. When we went out down the ramp we were through customs and to the car in less than 15 minutes. Appeared to be only one customs official on site. Maybe due to the government shut down. All he wanted was the declaration.

Look for the money, you get what you pay for. We had a very nice trip, service was excellent, cleanliness was exceptional, and the food was above average.

Yes I would like to do this again. Less
