This was our second experience with Viking and it did not disappoint! The new Forseti was nearly perfect. We especially enjoyed the outdoor/indoor dining area of the Aquavit Lounge. While September is one of the rainiest months, we were still able to enjoy some outside time. Sadly, the record rainfall raised the river and we were "stuck" waiting for it to recede so that we could fit under some of the lower bridges. However, Viking bent over backwards to assure we experienced the best these rivers had to offer.

From the hot and cold buffet breakfast to the variety of local cuisine choices for lunch to gourmet dining for dinner the meals on board were exceptional. As always, service in the dining areas was better than in any 5 star restaurant. We especially enjoyed a surprise treat when Chef Dimitar met us in the farmer's market in Vienna where he had prepared a table of cheese and sausage tastings for us!

In every city our local guides were wonderful, sharing historical knowledge as well as local customs. Due to the weather delays we were often bussed to the scheduled cities for our tours and, while not an ideal situation, Viking did procure the very best transportation for us and arranged for special lunches in cities where the length of our bus ride made it difficult to get back to the ship in time. Eventually our delays did cause us to miss Kinderdjik in order to make it to Amsterdam on time. We are experienced travelers and know that weather can often throw a wrench into the works and there are sometimes unavoidable difficulties even with the best planning. That's why we travel with Viking - they do whatever it takes to give us an exceptional experience. While we were sleeping the staff was scrambling to be sure everything was in place for the next day's adventures.

Cabin Review

Beautiful new ship. Enjoyed the top-side outdoor recreation area, but for most of the Danube it was closed to us because the low bridges required everything including the railings to be lowered. There is no indoor exercise area and that is the one fault we found with this ship. Our bed was very comfortable. Amenities of room were good. However we will not choose this category again as it was so small you "had to go out into the hall to change your mind". Also this room was at the end of the hall (the back of the bus so to speak) and the engine noise and vibration could be disturbing at times.
