First of all let me say that this is our 21st cruise with RCCL and our 3rd on the Voyager Class Ships. We favor this class of ship for the size and amount of activities offered although most of the ships have their own special strengths as well. We did not use any of the ships excursions but enjoy booking smaller venues by private tours and find these much more intimate and entertaining for our tastes.

Overall our trip was very pleasant and The Explorer of the Seas is still a very clean, comfortable and friendly ship. The Officers and his staff were very approachable and most friendly when spoken to. Captain Henrik Loy was the most friendly and informative captain we have had in some time, wonderful daily weather reports along with seeing him all over the ship. The crew also seemed to really like and appreciate him, a wonderful attribute.

Dining in the Main Dining Room, on the other hand, was not a great experience. The service was good and our waiter and assistant did everything they could to make our experience as pleasant as possible. The food was sub-par (not the quality of the food, just the preparation). The first two nights, our meals came out cold with baked potatoes also cold and hard......sent them back, came back the same way.....ate a salad, dessert and spent the remainder of the time in Portofino's which was excellent to a fault. Service, food quality, and portions were all almost 5 Star. The Windjammer was OK, actually better than the Main Dining Room.

Cabin Review

Our cabin was clean, comfortable, had a few signs of wear and tear but nothing terrible. Jo, our attendant, was eager to do everything she could to make our trip enjoyable. We did notice some noise in the morning (some banging, a metal sound, around 7:30am nearly every morning), but it only lasted for 15-20 minutes or so. I never did find out what the noise was.

Quebec City

What a beautiful City. Most European.....the people were fantastic.....the food was fantastic.....the weather was wonderful. We have been to Quebec City several times and it never seems not to amaze us. The history, the shops, the little restaurants on the street, and of course the Funicular going from upper old town to lower old town. Can't wait to go back!
