Trip Details
  • Sail Date: Sep 2013
  • Destination: the Eastern Mediterranean

We have just returned from 7 nights on the Costa Mediterranea. This was our first cruise and we were really nervous. WOW, We have no problems whatsoever. The whole experience was fabulous. We embarked at Heraklion Crete (Not Yokohama as above Crete not on the list of options) and sailed to Santorini,Israel, Turkey, Cyprus and Rhodes before arriving back in Crete.

The ship was spotless. It certainly looks impressive and does have the wow factor.

Food was excellent. We ate in the buffet at breakfast and lunch times but in the main restaurant in the evenings. The evening meals are very small, so we just ensured we had a larger lunch (and Afternoon tea which was also very good). Evening meals are in 2 sittings 7pm and 9.15 we prefer to eat earlier so was pleased to be allocated the 7pm slot.

Lots of different bars to wander around I am sure there is one to suit everybody. The Bar staff are very friendly and we had no problems getting any drinks. We have prepaid the all inclusive drink package for 19.50 Euros per person and we certainly used our moneys worth!

If I had any criticism to make it would be that the sun beds are far too close together, so you do feel you are lined up waiting to be shot!!! But most days when passengers get off it was fine.

Overall we had a brilliant experience on our maiden voyage and totally loved it.

Cabin Review

Cabin was clean, smart and pretty much what we expected. It was cleaned every day but they go into your cabin in the evenings to give you the daily ship news letter and anything else you may have ordered. And they do a quick tidy round at that time too.

Port & Shore Excursion Reviews

We arrived at the port and decided to take the cable car to the top. Wonderful views but as I am scared of heights I had my eyes shut!!! We wandered around the shops at the top which are full of the usual tourist souvenirs. We stopped for an ice cream and some coffees. The area is very clean and the views are amazing. We walked back down but this wasn't very nice as the steps are cobbled and slippery and full of Donkey Do Do so it doesn't smell very nice. You have to walk very slowly over wise you will slip and once you start walking you have no choice but to go the whole way! It took us about an hour to walk down but it was very hot, so we took our time. The views from the ship and from the top of the Island are amazing well worth the visit.

We wandered off the Ship to find an array of tourist souvenirs shops al selling the usual tat. If you enjoying looking in all the shops, you will love it here. We stopped for lunch and they gave us the biggest meals we have ever seen in our lives! We wandered around for a while then headed back to the ship. If you want to see Cyprus I would suggest you do an excursion as there are only shops at the port.

Acre Walking Tour

Our guide met us on the coach he was Israeli and his English was excellent. There were Germans on the trip too so he had to say everything twice, which wasn't a problem. The tour was as described on the Costa website and was very interesting. A good way to see Israel without the hours and hours of travelling to Jerusalem. etc
