Disappointed in Royal Caribbean

Having taken our most recent cruise with Royal in march, on the Freedom of the Seas, we had high hopes for our 9 night cruise on Explorer of the Seas August 22, 2013. We were very disappointed. First the good-

We were in an owners suite. The room was spacious . Lots of closet space. Denzel in concierge wonderful. Ice show wonderful. Alcohol plan worth money. Our waiter in dining room fantastic. Every spa service well done. All staff at bars and restaurants very friendly. Didn't think ship in terrible shape as some posters. Yes, needs a facelift, but not terrible!

The bad-

The food was terrible. Not the quality that we have been accustomed to on Royal Carribean. Portofinos was horrible. My husband and I ordered the tuna sashimi style- the tuna tasted "fishy" and was ice cold. The only good part of meal was the roasted garlic that came with the bread. Even the desserts were underwhelming.

In the main dining room we rarely liked anything on the menu More and our waiter was gracious enough to bring us every night Indian food( we aren't Indian, just happen to enjoy that food) . So we basically would try a bite of the menu food which was terrible then order our Indian( which was made for the crew!!!!!!)

The windjammer was shockingly bad. We spoke to at least 10 other couples who have cruised Royal before and had same food complaints as us!

There was not a separate line for suite guests at guest services( every cruise we have been on had that)

The entertainment was dismal. Only the ice show was worthy of seeing.

Our room attendant was friendly, but horrible at cleaning. Never vacuumed in 9 days or picked up anything under tables or straightened up our room. It was make the bed and give us towels and that was it. The shower never looked cleaned either. So surprised how bad he was. Was it because we prepaid gratuities for my time dining? Who knows

There was a wine glass left out in our hallway for 4 days!!!!

Only picked up after we saw worker in hallway and pointed it out to him!

We were in the ship when the 13 year old boy decided not to answer the numerous pages of the staff looking for him. After having everyone on that ship in a panic- thinking the worst - he finally emerged! Not the cruise lines fault, obviously, but made for a tense few hours. Less

Cabin review: OS1300 Owner's Suite

Cabin 1300- loved location- room spacious- closets abound- steward terrible barely cleaned- bed very uncomfortable- heard they were changing out mattress soon- shower was small- shower needs a ledge to put things on. Had problem with lights- kept flickering for no reason- eventually fixed
