For many years my wife and I have dreamed about undertaking a cruise on a ship. When our son relocated to Vancouver, we considered it opportune to give it a go despite the long distance from South Africa. We then had to decide which route we should explore, and unanimously decided on the Alaska route purely because it sounded so adventurous. Then we had to decide on the cruise line. After studying many reviews, we decided on the Celebrity line and on the Century.

Having arrived in Vancouver, we eventually made our way to Canada Place and commenced the boarding process. For absolute lay persons this was really easy and then we entered the wonderful world of cruising. We had a neat cabin with an extremely courteous and competent, staff member, Pedro. Then we rushed to explore the ship.Every facility on the ship was neat, and well attended to.The buffet lounges and the restaurants were amazing and the standard of the food, superlative. The pool deck was clean and very well utilized by the tourists. The shows on the ship were so wonderful , in particular those traveling down memory lane in Britain and Broadway. The artists were extremely entertaining. In addition , there were smaller musical entertainments in the martini lounges and once again of a superior class. An aspect which really impressed us was the constant supervision by the senior officers including the captain, and that surely contributed to the high standard of the ship.

I could go on and on about all the wonderful facilities on this ship, but I must suffice with one further word"Magic". The manner in which the ship was steered and the extreme effort to expose the passengers to everything which could add value to one's trip was admirable. The trouble the Captain took to show all the passengers the wonders of the Hubbard Glacier , is just one of the examples. The Cruise Director's input to ensure that the passengers had a memorable experience, must not be forgotten. He really rendered an excellent service.
