We recently returned from a 16 day Roof of The World trip to China. Booked with Viking River Cruises. Started in Beijing, went to Xian, Lhasa (Tibet), River cruised on the Yangtze, ended in Shanghai. Small group on land tour of 32, 250 on ship. Trip included 18 escorted tours and 5 days on the river. Our tour escort was amazing! Visited lots of museums but each with a different history. Food was better than we expected after reading some reviews on Cruise Critic. Food on ship lots of choices of either western or Chinese. Entertainment and lectures on board excellent for the size of the ship.
Only negative things were weather very very hot 107F one day but we had no control over that. Other was the ship, advertised as new it is not, has been refurbished. Air conditioning in cabins was very limited and with the high temperatures and humidity rooms became very damp and musty. Lots of passengers came home with upper respiratory problems. We would recommend this trip to others but not in the summer months.
Need to look at humidity issues, very damp and musty while on Yangtze River.
