RCI's ----- of the Seas not like it use to be
I have continued with other companies Carnival, Holland, Princess, Celebrity, Oceania, and Crystal over the next 20+ years.
Before, RCI had wonderful activities that got people moving through their ship shape dollars programs. Today, most activities deal with selling products.
Past food menus dealt with themes like French, Italian, Asian, American night. Today, the food and desserts are bad. There are no butter or cream in their food and less salt. Maybe the substituted ingredients have less calories? But it did affect the taste. Creme Brulee was airy, very eggy. Ice cream were ice milk or soft serve. Most of their cake were dry. We ordered a special birthday cake, and it was delicious. Cake was light and moist and real whipping cream was used. Oh yes, one night there was a sampler offered (flourless chocolate cake, raspberry mousse, and etc.) and it was More excellent.
I would ordered most of the starters which was pretty good and find someone to share an entree and dessert.
RCI use to have Las Vegas style entertainment. Today, your entertainment is provided by the ship's singers and dancers which I usually enjoy. But the quality of the productions were bad. The entertainment at the bars were better. Only the headliners provided excellent shows.
The cabin stewards were excellent. The dining staff was excellent. The Windjammer staff was not great. I got the feeling that they were ready for R and R. I think Paul, the cruise director needs a vacation too.
Public facilities were clean.
Port: Juneau: take the RT $16.00 bus to Mendlehall glacier. Skagway, take a walking tour from the visitor center. Ketchikan , take the public bus for$1.00 to Saxman Village ( $5.00 admission fee). Hubbard glacier was fogged in. We could not see anything.
I think going on Celebrity cruises, a subsidiary of RCI, would be a better value. Food, entertainment, and ships activities are much better. Less

Port and Shore Excursions
Go the the kiosk and buy a round trip ticket for $16.00 to Mendlehall. Take the Nugget Fall trail, very easy, or do a more difficult hike .
Take the public bus for $1.00 to visit the Saxman Village. There is a $5.00 admission fee. If you have time, you can visit Bright totem poles on the beach. You can pay $2.00 and ride the public bus all day.
