Celebrity knows how to run a cruise line. No long lines, no chaos, lots of organization. Even when using tenders, getting on and off the ship was easy. We only did two Celebrity shore excursions (in Koper and Corfu) and they both featured local guides, which was a plus. In all other ports, we hired private guides with vehicles; this was not only cost-effective, but everything was personalized. We were traveling as a group of 6 people.
Food on the Silhouette was generally excellent; we had a dinner seating at 6 p.m., so we had the same waiter and assistant every night, which was very nice. Wine selection was very good. Every dinner offered at least four or five appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts. The international crew was friendly and always helpful. Our room stewards were nice fellows who took very good care of us.
We were in concierge class on the port side, aft of midships. The view from our balcony every morning as we sailed into a new port was wonderful. We especially enjoyed Malta and Sicily. Staterooms are roomy, but I missed a hand shower in the bathroom. The ATM on board sold Euros at a decent exchange rate. Overall, this was an excellent value and a wonderful vacation.
Cabin 1289, port side, aft amidships. Very quiet; small but nice balcony with two recliners and a table. A bit of a hike to the elevators and stairs but not a problem.
