We sailed on a one week's cruise with MSC Fantasia the last week in June. Embarking from Venice and then to Bari, Katakolon, Santorini, Pireus, Corfu, Dubrovnik and back to Venice. Venice is of course the main attraction here. The ship itself is huge, new and modern. Everything is very well maintained and working the way it should. We had a balcony cabin and would highly recommend this. It is well worth the extra cost. The food served in the restaurants was good and varied. The staff was polite, friendly and helpful, and Devi, our cabin stewardess, did an excellent job cleaning the cabin and changing towels twice a day. Some areas of the ship were very noisy, especially, around the pools. It could alo be quite a long wait for the elevators at times. The temperature in the public areas and the bars was also too cold for our taste. The shows in the evenings were varied and mostly good entertainment.

A word of warning should be given for Santorini. Since ships are not able to dock, there are tender boats bringing people ashore to the tiny harbour below Fira. In our case two other huge cruise ships were there at the same time. The only way to get to Fira is either to take the cable car which does not take more than max fifty people at a time or climb a very steep path for at least twenty minutes. If you decide to take the path, you will have to fight your way between hordes of donkies and people going up and down. You can of course choose to ride one of the poor donkies, but quite a few accidents have happened because of the total chaos. When finally arriving at Fira, the chaos continues. The streets are packed with tourist watching shops selling souvenirs and junk. And to get down to the harbour again, we were queing an hour for the cable car before we finally got down and could take the tender boat back to the ship. This is the worst and most stupid tourist trap we have ever experienced. Our strong advice is to stay on board unless you join one of the MSC organized excursions that will take you to another harbour where buses are waiting.

Apart from the Santorini experience we had a pleasant week on MSC Fantasia. This is of course a floating holiday factory, but we wouldn't mind going on a MSC cruise another time.

Cabin Review

The cabin was spacious enough with a quite comfortable bed and a balcony fitted with two chairs and a table. . Everything spotlessly clean.
