With the delivery of this new ship to the Port of New York and cruising to Bermuda our expectations were high going on the NCL Breakaway. On the positive side: fast embarkation at the Port of New York; the Entertainment was excellent, especially Rock of Ages; Moderno restaurant was excellent and worth the additional charge; O'Sheehan's Pub was great for a quick bite and drink, and Cruise Director Julie was helpful and visable during the cruise. There were many things that did not quite meet our expectations, some of those are: Room Service was a disaster...they came 40 minutes late one day, an hour late the next, and on the 3rd day they didn't come at all. My wife called Room Service and they said the door tag was misplaced. We didn't use room service again on this cruise, even though the supervisor left a tray of chocolate covered strawberries in our room. The ship staff was not very friendly or responsive. Our room steward had to be reminded to leave glasses in the room and left a dirty washrag on the lamp. The Customer Service desk was rude and not helpful in resolving an issue with an on-board credit for my niece that was supposed to be there. The captain and his senior staff did not make personal appearances as was advertised, and the service in the Manhatten Dining Room was so slow it took over 2 hours to complete our dinner one night. The explaination given was that the kitchen was on a different floor and the wait staff had to take an escalator to deliver the food. The pool and hot tubs were enjoyable but there were no chairs by the pool and it was tough to find 2 or more chairs together that were not taken or saved with towels. The layout of the ship made you walk thru the smokey casino to get from front to back. Due to the size of this mega ship it is recommended that you make reservations before you sail for the entertainment, if you don't you have to wait on the stand-by line to get in to see the show. The Rockettes were not very visable during the cruise and did not perform any dance moves. This was our 3rd time to Bermuda and it is still a beautiful port of call. The Dockyards, Hamilton, and St. George are all great places to explore. The 2 or 3 day bus/ferry pass worked out great for our party of 10 people. Glad we were able to spend the time with our extended family on this cruise out of New York but were not impressed with the overall experience on the Breakaway compared to other cruises we have been on.
