This was our first cruise and i have to say I found this board very helpful. This led to few bad surprises. Our experience overall was terrific on the Serenade of the Seas. We chose San Diego as our Port of Departure as it is a quick plane trip from our home in Phoenix. We came in a day early and booked a room at the Holiday Inn on the Bay. We had a very nice day in San Diego and a terrific dinner at Anthonys. We walked right across the street to the cruise terminal. Even though we checked in online it still took us 3 hors to board the ship. Our fault really as we waited until 2PM to head over there. If we had arrived at 12 noon we would have been on the ship around 2PM. Lesson learned. We book a junior suite and it was exactly as advertised in the brochure and online. Large room , 293 sq feet and large balcony with a perfect view. We were towards the back of the ship but we needed the exercise with all the food and drinks we had. Our attendant, Donovan, was excellent. The Serenade of the Seas was very beautiful and we had so much to do. The staff was fun and very courteous. The drinks although expensive were well made and the bartenders were good on the pour!! Activities were all fun and well put on. Some were kind of lame but still fun. The "Quest" was the most stupid and the most hilarious!! Shows were all first rate especially, "LaRaf", well done gentlemen. As for the food....well for mass produced it was pretty good....not great but good. Room service was worst as far as quality of food but who cares we were being served room service!!! Not too many kids on this voyage and that was perfect for us. With five grown children and 3 grandchildren we were happy for the respite. Good variety of ages throughout. We are 45 to 50 range and it suited us. Shopping was okay on board. Ports well, Ensenada will not be on our next itinerary but Cabo San Lucas definitely will be!! Disembarking took a long time. Maybe it was because two cruise ships docked at the same time. We waited 3 1/2 hours to get off ship but we booked and afternoon flight home so we arrived at the airport with time to spare. We will try another cruise line next time just to try something different...probably NCL but we will not hesitate to go on another Royal Caribbean cruise. We love it!!!
