First time cruisers

Sail Date: June 2013
Destination: Baltic Sea
Embarkation: Amsterdam
This was a very busy cruise because there were only 4 days at sea; which was sufficient for my husband. Everything was very clean and the staff very professional and friendly. We are not big eaters and so although the buffet was very plentiful we did not try a lot of the options. the dinner meals were varied and offered something for everyone. My husband loves fish and tried many types and found them very good except for the cod. I am a light eater and managed to find salads and small plates to enjoy.

Our room was small for 3 adults and we were told it was bigger. My husband slept on a made up couch which was a bit short for someone six feet tall. However the room was kept very clean and the staff responsive to any request.

Although there were several talks and entertainment we found activities a bit limited. I would have enjoyed a separate games room where there would be cards, scrabble, backgammon and other games displayed.

There really is not anything to More complain about in the service but we realize that we are not really cruisers as we like to be busy and the ship didn't offer enough activities and our day tours felt rushed. Less

Cabin review: 2A Deluxe Ocean View with Balcony 2A

This room is too small for 3 adults. Parents with one child would be okay.

Port and Shore Excursions

A great city but under construction. easy to walk around and get to the ship but some major sites are under wraps due to the building of a new metro. Enjoyed the Christianbourg Castle but did not have time to visit the national museum

Beautiful city. Don't miss the History museum or the Rock Church.

Amber Room

Still such a mystery surrounding this room but a great recreation.

Catherine Palace

A beautiful rebuilt palace and a real mystery about the amber room. It still seems extravagant to rebuild all these palaces when the people of Russia still have such needs.

Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood

Interesting to see a place for the tsars, it shows the past reverence for these rulers.

City Tour

Our tour leader was great and gave us so much information. Reluctant to answer any questions that could be negative. Enjoy what you see but don not forget that you see what the government wants you to see.

Hermitage Museum

An exhausting 2 hour tour but we saw some of the major things we wanted to see. A wonderful, knowledgeable tour guide.

Neva River Cruise

Constant information which was difficult to take everything in but a very well informed tour leader. Beautiful day and so everything was shining, very beautiful to see.

Peter & Paul Fortress

A bit of a blur.

Peterhof Palace

Saw the grounds but not allowed inside. No reason given.

St. Isaac's Cathedral

Not memorable.

Go directly to the old town because you have no time to see much else.

A great walled city. Beautiful linens and one shop that has embroiders linen. Good local market down near the walls if you want to buy sweaters. Very pretty and you will only have time to see the old town.
