This repositioning cruise was our first with Princess after doing 3 with Holland America and 2 with Celebrity. We flew into Seattle, from Phoenix the day of the cruise. It was $32, including tip, from the airport to the terminal. It was truly express check-in. We walked right up to an agent who tore the travel ticket out of our book, checked our passports, made a impression of our credit card, and gave us our room keys. This took all of two minutes. Is this easy or what? Spoke too soon. Walked out of the back of the terminal and there must have been 200 people waiting to get on the ship. Not much help finding the cabin, all they did was look at our room assignment and told us to go to deck 8 and hang a right. Being a cruise veteran this was no problem but we did run into first timers cussing under their breath. The room was awful small. I slept on the right side of the bed and had to crawl in and out of bed from the foot of the bed. There was less than a foot between the bed and the wall and the closet was at the end so I couldn't take that route. The shower was small an odd shaped. Being a fairly big guy I almost had to wash half at a time. We had an obstructed view and we knew that but we didn't know there would be crew members in and about the lifeboat almost everyday. We didn't want to put on a show so we had the drapes closed most of the time. The Sun Princess is a beautiful ship and very well kept up. The entertainment was first rate. The food was very good. Verdis, the Italian place had some of the best calzone we ever had. Our only major complaint was the temperature in the theater, lounge, and our room, it was so cold you could hang meat in there. The thermostat in the room did absolutely nothing. We heard alot of people complaining about this. Overall the service was great except for a few instances in the main dining room. We usually have breakfast there as we tend to overeating the buffet but after having our orders goofed up the first three mornings, we went to the buffet the rest of the trip. We also had one real bad experience in the anytime dining at dinner. We normally get a table for two, not because we are antisocial, but because we like to get in and out faster. The night in question, we asked for a table for two and got a table for four. That's what we had the night before but we had it to yourself. This night another couple was seated with us about two minutes later. They had asked for a table for two for the same reason. The table had no water glasses, not rolls or butter and no saucers and knives for the bread. The waiter stopped by just long enough to introduce himself and give us menus, never to be seen again. After 15 more minutes the gentleman sitting with us was so irate he went and complained to one of the head waiters. The head waiter can over and apologized profusely and he became our waiter. Talk about service, if you took a sip of water he was there to refill it. As soon as we finished a course, the next one was there. We were out of there in 35 minutes after the head waiter took charge. The service from all the others was great. We had a tour in Cost Rica and it was a complete waste of money. They bussed us, for an hour, on roads I wouldn't take a horse on to take a pontoon boat, out into the jungle to see wildlife. We saw a baby crocodile,a nd a three footer, and sever strange birds, that was it. The ride back to port was on an old time train. It was an hour bouncing around like you were riding a bucking bronco. It went through the slums of the country. We took a "The best of Aruba tour" and that wasn't any better. We bussed for 1/2 hour to some park to see a "natural bridge". The only problem was the bridge was partially collapsed and closed. Top it off, they charged you $.25 to use the bathroom. We also stopped at an aloe vera plant for a tour but it was Sunday and the plant was closed. We had some time in Ft. Lauderdale before our flight and we took a tour of the Flamingo Gardens and Everglades and that was nice. Overall it was a nice cruise but not up to the par of the other five we took. There were several small things that we didn't care for but they were in the lines of personal preference and not worth bringing up. If Princess had a unique itinerary or a super good deal, like this cruise was, we'd do Princess again. If everything is equal, we'd do HAL or Celebrity.
