Carnival Magic Cruise Review by LooneyCruzer
- Sail Date: May 2013
- Destination: Bahamas
- Cabin Type: Balcony
2 Aft cabins,
2 indoor across the hall,
1 corner wraparound. (so we had the whole aft/port corner)
Got an email to not arrive so early due to some Customs thing on the arriving Cruise, so we waited an extra hour or two and then showed up. Took maybe 45 minutes to drop off bags and get processed and be drinking on board. Cabins were ready and luggage was delivered by 4pm. Everyone was nice and friendly.
The room was great, the layout was different being a corner, and the wrap-around balcony was very nice. It is worth staying in one of these cabins at least 1 cruise. Being able to see forward, side and behind was cool. We decided we would still prefer the Aft-rear Balcony cabins, as they are larger rather than longer, but both are great Cabins. Our Steward took great care of the room. We did not interact very much, but he always spoke to us by name and exceeded our expectations. There were a few time we heard the chairs being moved above us when they clean, but 2 of those times were planned cleaning times and they left us notice when it would occur, so it seems they are now recognizing this issue.
The boat was huge, lots to do, lots of activities. Negatives on the musical/band choices, but not every cruise can have every thing. The bands were good, but not much variety. Took a few days to get a pattern of the ship, it is very broken up, but, I think it is just to make you walk off the food and alcohol consumed. Good and Bad :)
Drink prices were as expected, but good and strong, nice varieties of daily drinks. Food was great, Lido deck as expected when you feed 2500+ a shift, 3 times a day. The Steakhouse had great service and flavors, was worth 1 evening. The Dining room was fun. Throughout the whole trip they accommodated all 14 of us, which was unexpected and very convenient. The food was excellent and had a great variety of standard dishes and Upscale food. I did not like all of it, but a cruise is about trying different things. Everything I did try was of excellent quality and flavor. Again... while serving fine dining style to 1000+ people, twice an evening, with entertainment. Quite a feat!
Everyone was nice and friendly, staff and crew were very professional. I spent lots of time relaxing and watching. I saw a few issues that were handled quickly and quietly. The boat was very clean and kept up. Getting on and off at the ports is always a crap shoot with 3800 people, but we had no issues, getting on and off multiple times a day.
Key West was nice, and clean. Had fin just walking around town and thru the street for a few hours, and eating at a local place. I would return to this port again.
Did not do anything in Freeport. Just got off the boat and walked around in the shipside shops. Was interesting to see the Industrial activities and we also saw the Triumph in dry dock being repaired.
Went to Blue Lagoon island. Booked thru them, saved 38 bucks each vs cruise rates. We got on the same boat as the cruise excursion, picking us at the Terminal, and taking us straight to the Island and back again. Really fun place and worth the money. Customer service and handling of everyone was excellent.
Lots of little cove beaches to explore and take pictures for screensavers.
The provided food was also good and tasty. Gift shop and food snacks were very expensive.
Getting off the boat was as easy as getting on, about 45 minutes, no issues. It is still best to just sit and wait for them to call you, instead of rushing like cattle and being frustrated.
Overall excellent cruise for the money. Everyone had a great time, had plenty to do, had no issues, and didn't sink or break down.
