Seven ports in nine days

Sail Date: April 2013
Destination: Southern Caribbean
Embarkation: San Juan
My husband and I flew out of Baltimore to San Juan, Puerto Rico. We found an excellent small hotel, the Chateau Cervantes, in the heart of Old San Juan. It was immaculately clean and beautifully decorated. Our room had tall French doors which opened onto a small balcony overlooking the colorful streets. We allowed an extra day to do a self guided walking tour of this old, gorgeous history rich town. Forts, flowers, blue cobblestone streets, oceanside walkways, and numerous cafes and restaurants thrilled us both over the next 24 hours. The next day our hotel attendants hailed a taxi which delivered us to the Pan American pier in about ten minutes.

Embarkation was a breeze, and in less than one hour we were onboard the Grandeur of the Seas. Our two Royal Caribbean cruises have been perfect beyond description. The cabins are nice, the food is great, the crew is amazing, and the shore excursions are wonderful.
We would like to especially mention the crew members who More staff the Park Cafe. We spent many wonderful hours in this adult retreat topside, glass enclosed area.

The breakfasts, lunches, snacks, and dinners were just delicious. Also the staff members went out of their way to interact in a hospitable and friendly manner. Victor was so kind to my husband , and we made a Tunisian friend who taught us a little about card games in his home country. These crew members, all of them, are so pleasant and patient.
The days passed too quickly , and we found ourselves back in Baltimore. Debarkation was smooth and easy. We are left with memories of a relaxing yet thrilling vacation. Thanks to all! Less

Cabin review: K8055 Large Interior Stateroom

This interior room is close to all of the services we most appreciate on a cruise. The bed was comfortable. The room was very clean. We had plenty of closet space. We chose the room because it is close to the stairs and very close to the Park Cafe/Solarium. Excessive noise was never an issue in this room. We would gladly recommend this cabin to our friends.

Port and Shore Excursions

Island Tour

This tour in an air conditioned bus is a little boring, but it does allow for a quick survey of the island.

Walking Tour of Old San Juan

We meandered around this old historic town on our own, asking directions from the park rangers at the two Spanish forts. We ate inexpensively, but the food was delicious. We enjoyed our portside and seaside walks outside the city walls. This city is an American delight not to be missed. We always felt safe with many police officers often in sight.

Rainforest Tour

This was our best tour ever. This hike up to the top of the volcano was very demanding and very stenuous. Vines, mud, rocks, monkeys, rain, sun, and a glorious view of a dormant volcano crater at the end of the trail. Energy food, water, an excellent guide, like Paul and Mr. Rogers, are must haves.

Helmet Dive

I recommend this excursion for all non swimmers. With a helmet to keep my hair dry and with my glasses still on, I was able to observe an amazingly lovely underwater environment. The Sea Trek staff was very efficient and all of the equipment was clean and well maintained.
